Problem

We can assume busy professionals have limited time to research healthy receipts and sort through the wealth of information available on the internet. So build a site to help reinforce cooking skill-sets for busy people that want to cook at home and improve their lives by making mobile cooking education available for individuals with professional lifestyles.

1. Research

In order to create a better solution, I first needed to better understand the user and their problem:

  • Time is a big factor when people consider what to cook. People are busy and they also value their free time, they don’t always have time to look up techniques and recipes only to find they don’t have the tools they need.

  • People are more likely to explore new things when they have guidance. Users expressed that they would like to learn new methods but didn’t know where to start.

3. Design

My research gave me a clear idea about what I should be building. From user information, I then prioritised the following problems:

  • Structure the recipe page layout in a way that the user can easily scan through the most important information

  • Provide all the information the user needs to make a decision selecting a recipe from the card preview

  • Help the users filtering through multiple recipes

4. Testing

Using my best sketches, I built a bare-bones prototype. I designed a couple of tasks for the users where they had to undergo their current workflow to finish them:

  • First, Emma would search for recipes by a specific ingredient

  • Then, she would look through the list of ingredients needed to make the recipe

During these sessions, I got to observe their thought process, workflow, the tools they use, and some pain points.

5. Iteration

A current theme was observed when asking the users "what would help you decide while comparing or choosing a recipe". The majority of participants wanted to see the ingredients and difficulty. Since the original design did not provide any information related to ingredients, I've added more hidden information by making it visible while hovering on the card.

Modifications after the usability test for the iteration included:

  • Hovering on card show a list of ingredients and difficulty
