Problem

Quitting smoking has become a goal for thousands of people who want to get rid of tobacco once and for all. For health, for aesthetics, for economy, each person has more than one reason to avoid cigarettes.

1. Research

The ultimate goal was to help heavy smokers to quit. In order to create a better solution, I first needed to better understand their problem:  why users start the process of quitting smoking but they give up at some point and go back to smoking?

  • The anxiety of quitting smoking is usually most intense during the first three or four days, and can last up to two or three weeks. The discomfort during this stage causes many people to slip back into the habit. Smoke Free helps motivate you by sending you alerts and giving you valuable information. For example, after a while it tells you how much money you have saved since you have been smoking less or since you have quit. Gamification may help keep quitting smoking fun, encouraging people to change their behaviour. Additionally, people can view their milestones and achievements.

After some research based on surveys I defined our Persona.

3. Design

The research gave us a clear idea about what we should be focused on design so we started some early wireframes of our app and later high fidelity mockups. The interface is clean and modern in design and full of useful statistics, such as how much time has passed since a person quit smoking, how much money they have saved, and the number of cigarettes that they have not smoked.
